Nagoya Institute of Technology
About Nagoya Institute of Technology
Academics
NITech's academic structure is primarily organized under the Faculty of Engineering for undergraduate education and the Graduate School of Engineering for advanced degrees. The university offers a wide range of programs across nearly all disciplines within engineering, including Life Science and Applied Chemistry, Physical Science and Engineering, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, and Architecture, Civil Engineering and Industrial Management Engineering. A notable program is the Creative Engineering Program, a six-year integrated undergraduate and graduate course designed to cultivate engineers and researchers with multidisciplinary perspectives. The institution promotes interdisciplinary education and research, particularly at the graduate level, with joint degree programs with international universities.
International Students
NITech provides various support services for international students, including a tutelage system where senior students assist newcomers with their studies and daily life in Japan. The Education Center for International Students offers Japanese language courses at different fluency levels and activities related to Japanese culture. While many programs are taught in Japanese, some English-taught programs are available, including joint doctoral programs with the University of Wollongong (Australia) in Informatics and with Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (Germany) in Energy Conversion Systems. As of 2022, NITech enrolled 242 international students from 29 countries, with the majority (90.9%) from Asia. The university also offers scholarships, including MEXT scholarships and those from private foundations, and provides career support specifically for international students seeking employment in Japan.
Campus & Location
NITech's main campus is situated in the heart of Nagoya, Japan's third-largest metropolitan area. The campus is conveniently located next to Tsuruma Park, offering students a relaxing environment with easy access to central shopping areas. Nagoya itself is a significant industrial hub, known for its automotive, aviation, and machine tool industries. The campus facilities include classrooms, lecture halls, engineering labs, research centers, and halls of residence, along with a well-stocked library and cafeterias. The International House on campus provides accommodation for international students and researchers.
Career Outcomes
Nagoya Institute of Technology boasts strong career outcomes for its graduates. Approximately 73% of undergraduates advance to higher education. The job placement rates are high, with 98.6% for day course undergraduates, 100% for evening course undergraduates, 99.6% for Master's course students, and 95.2% for Doctoral course students in FY 2021. The university has strong industry connections, particularly within the Tokai region's manufacturing sector, which includes major companies like DENSO, LIXIL, SoftBank, and Mitsubishi Electric Engineering. NITech provides career support services, including individual consultations and job placement guidance, to assist students in their job searches. International students are encouraged to develop Japanese language skills for employment in Japan.
